Prehung Door Before Or After Finished Floor

Is it a good idea to wait until the floors are installed before installing the doors or should the doors be installed first or doesn t it matter.

This is for timing. I removed old wood walls and putt in new drywall and so now the door frame is off balance with the wall. Before the floors go in you can easily shim one end of the jamb to get the door exactly plumb. So i need to buy new prehung interior doors.

After floors this would be a huge pain to do since you would need to pull the door out and saw the jamb. By having all the doors and trim up first the painters can come in and spray everything out and get the first coat of color on the walls. You should hang all doors and trim after dry wall. The door jambs don t have to touch the subfloor in carpeted situations but they must be in contact with hardwood flooring ceramic tile cork or other finished floors that are typically smooth.
